The building housing this 100m2 flat was built in the 1970s in Berlin’s peaceful Westend district. Its design is characterised by strong geometric shapes and the blue outer frames of the windows – simple but assertive elements which make it stand out from the other buildings on the street.
Our renovation project took into account these graphic features by mirroring them in the interior spaces of this family flat. Cement tiles bearing geometric motifs give the kitchen a gentle touch with a grey and blue colour scheme; they are enhanced by a selection of black units, which give structure to the space. Throughout the flat, a wide parquet floor in light, solid oak is a nod to a warm, classic aspect of Berlin flats: the traditional “Dielen”. Because the existing rooms were extremely small, we decided to open up the kitchen onto the dining room in order to bring in as much light as possible and to free up movement within the flat.
