For the renovation of this generous Altbau-style apartment in the Berlin district of Wilmersdorf, we focused on graphic and colourful materials that would enliven, and give back their elegance to the living spaces. The opening of the former kitchen creates a triple row of rooms, complemented by a winter garden and an alcove. The volumes, after renovation, are airy and bathed in light. The original arch in the corridor has been restored, and the historic oak floors have recovered their character after being covered and partially damaged during previous installations. The aim of our renovation concept was to play with the stylistic codes of a large, bourgeois family home while bringing softness and freshness into the everyday life. The spaces are punctuated with neat details; the junction of hexagonal cement tiles with solid parquet flooring in the open kitchen, monumental wall tiles (marble effect) to visually expand the small parents bathroom, dark wood in small touches on soft and light-coloured surfaces… This apartment has been designed while respecting the original codes, with soft colours and graphic materials bringing a gentle modernity to the whole.
