The investigation project Rurapolis takes place in the cross-border territory of the Atlantic Pyrenees (France) and Navarre (Spain). Rural ruins are used as a tool for regional development in the context of the climatic and societal challenges we are now facing.

1 • ROUND TABLE
The Rurapolis Summerschool will be introduced in May 2022 during an inaugural round table at ÉNSA Versailles (& online), in parallel with the Architecture and Landscape Biennal BAP!, whose annual theme (Earth and Cities) is in line with the issues of the Rurapolis.
Invited to this inaugural round table are personalities involved in the processes of recovery, in a search for economy of means, of the built heritage, of an exploration of the territory and of human relations in peri-urban and rural areas.

2 • SUMMERSCHOOL

The Summerschool Rurapolis is open to architecture students and to anyone interested by the thematic; it will take place over eight days from the 1st to the 9th of September 2022 in Navarra, Spain. It will be structured around a series of lectures at the Palacio Condestable in Pamplona, with well-known personalities at European and regional level, and a prospective exploration of the territory with the help of cartographic material developed during the research. Then, a small architecture/amphitheatre/totem made of raw earth and mixed techniques will be developed in the abandonned village of Egulbati, which will allow the development of a sustainable constructive intelligence and the first *earthy* milestone of the Rurapolis. The training on the rammed earth technique will be carried out with a raw earth expert. At the end of the stay, the collectively designed architectural object will host a cultural and festive event, making the reactivation of the neglected village structures in this territory possible and attractive.

THE PLACE

The village of Egulbati is located just a little further than the outskirts of Pamplona. Due to its private property status, the area has been preserved from massive deforestation over the last few decades, giving it an excellent degree of environmental conservation, hence the desire of the Valle de Egüés to acquire it for recreational and educational use, including the creation of a nature interpretation centre. Egulbati is an interesting destination for a peri-urban journey from the outskirts of Pamplona, which would allow the participants of the Summerschool Rurapolis to fully experience this issue. The will of the site's administration to convert the abandonned village in a socio-cultural place connected to nature issues can be a springboard for a punctual architectural and cultural intervention on this site.
